"It's one of the best subcultures to be a part of"

One of the biggest subcultures in this country is the football casual scene.

Thousands of fans dressed in high-end designer clothing head off every weekend to support their local team.

Whilst the clothing may differ, the footwear does not.

Adidas Originals are commonly seen on football terraces in various colours and designs.

Daniel McLaren, who supports Sky Bet Championship Rotherham United, is part of this subculture and religiously wears Adidas trainers - even if he's not at the football.

"It is one of the best subcultures to be a part of," said Dan.

The 19-year-old then described the football casual scene, which involves wearing other clothing brands like Stone Island, C.P. Company and Aquascutum.

He said: "Legend has it that it all started because of the Liverpool fans’ charge across Europe in the European Cup where they returned wearing the high-end designer clothing we all see across the terraces today.

"The terraces are full of working class lads who work for hours on end to buy these designer brands to wear on a match day; it just generally looks smart and it’s a way to stand out."

In May, Dan's team Rotherham won promotion to the Championship, but could face relegation back to League One.

One thing that will remain is Dan's choice of footwear that he first started buying four years ago.

"I believe my first pair was some Gazelle Indoor and what made me buy them was the midnight green colour and from then on the collection started.

"I have around 20 pairs now, but I have downsized my collection a few times because the majority of them didn't get worn.

"The main reason I still buy them is because the silhouettes are iconic as many pairs are usually a re-issue from years ago.

"The majority of Adidas trainers are generally a ‘smart’ trainer that guarantees people to turn their heads.

"My favourite pair in my collection is either the Adidas Dublins or Adidas x C.P. Company Tobaccos. However, one of my favourite pairs in general are the Adidas ‘Carlos’ New York Spezial."

Dan's favourite pair of trainers - Adidas x C.P. Company.

It's not just the trainers that Dan has taken a liking to - he is also a keen collector of other clothing from Adidas.

"Most of the Adidas clothing I own are garments from the Adidas Spezial collection from Gary Aspden; a few tees, polos and jackets," explained Dan.

These limited edition trainers that Dan has managed to buy hasn't been easy because sometimes he has missed out on pairs that have sold out instantly online.

"The majority of times this has happened to me where I have missed out on some trainers, especially collaborations between Adidas and certain retailers.

"It’s becoming more and more common in the past year as the culture is becoming more popular through the UK."

Still with the link of streetwear, Dan has sometimes sold his trainers on to make proift.

He added: "I do resell numerous times if I no longer wear them. I try to wear all of my trainers so a few times I have sold some for the same price as I bought them for or in certain cases a small profit depending on the rarity."
